Dogs- The dogs represent Stalin's secret police force in the novel. The dogs changed characters because at first they were nice puppies but Napoleon turned them into a mean fighting machine. The dogs were flat characters because all we know is that Napoleon made them mean.
Napoleon- He is the antagonist because he causes many of the conflicts. Also he is a dynamic character because we know that he likes doing things his way, he is not the sharpest tool., and without the power he has he would be nothing.
Boxer- He is a flat character too. All we know about boxer is that he will also work harder. He is a static character because throughout the book you will know that he will always work harder.

Themes
One theme that was apparent in the novel was absolute power causes harm. In the book Napoleon had absolute power and because of it it drove the farm in the ground. Napoleon was so powerful that non of the other farmers could take it over which was seen in the battles. Also his power causes harm because he killed innocent animals because they were forced to admit that they were close with Mr.Jones or Snowball.
Another theme that I found is that people will walk over you if you let them. This was easily seen because the rest of the farm animals were afraid to stand up to Napoleon. Because no one stood up to him he walked all over the farm animals.
The last theme that I found is that rules or commandments of some sort are important. They keep a system in balance like in the federal government so it does not get too powerful. Also this is shown when the less amount of commandments the more chaos that occurred in the book.
Motifs
One symbol that I found in the story is the windmill. The windmill first occurs in the beginning of the story when Snowball introduces his idea to the animals. The windmill is also found later in the story when the animals first start to build it. Napoleon forces the animals to do back breaking labor to have it completed. The windmill then gets destroyed and Napoleon convinces all of the animals that it was Snowball. The animals rebuild it again and again it is destroyed in the battle. The windmill was suppose to make everything easier for the animals but it was really tough work for the animals.
Another motif that I found were the commandments. They occurred throughout several times in the novel. The commandments was suppose to show structure but, it was the exact opposite. Throughout the book the commandments kept changing in a way to benefit the pigs so their life would be easier. The commandments started out very strict and they changed throughout the book by becoming more relaxed.
Lastly, hard work is a motif in the book. Hard work is found throughout the book between all of the animals except the pigs. The animals have to work hard so they do not starve to death. Also the animals work tirelessly to finish the windmill because in the end it was suppose to pay off so they did not have to work as much. It was the case if they did not work Napoleon would have you killed. In the book Boxer was worked to death and sent off to the glue factory because the pigs worked him so hard.
Symbols
One symbol that I found was the windmill. The windmill symbolized innovation at its finest. When Snowball first introduced the windmill it was suppose to make life easier for the animals after they built it. But, because they had to build it over so many times it caused a lot of problems for the animals instead. When Snowball first proposed the windmill all of the animals were on board because it pay off in the end for them to build by making the farm more efficient.
The commandment were a symbol that I found in the book too. The commandments served as a guide to live by rules to keep structure in the farm. They often changed to become more relaxed and easier for the pigs to use so they could easily accomplish the task at hand. For example they could easily kill other animals as long as they had a reason to do so. This left a gray area and none of the animals wanted to go toe to toe with Napoleon because Napoleon would win with his dogs.
Tones
I think that the author wanted to make me laugh with him because of how ridiculously close he made this to the Russian Revolution. It was funny because no one could accuse him for making fun of the Russian Revolution because he was talking about animals. It was funny because who he made what animal from the Revolution.
The author also ticked me off. Mainly, because of the way Napoleon treated Boxer. He was the hardest worker and would never try and overthrow Napoleon from government. Also It made me mad when Napoleon sent Boxer to the glue factory too. Boxer was the hardest worker on the farm but he was treated worse than all of the other characters.
Lastly, the author made me sad because of the way that Napoleon ran things on the farm. I think if Napoleon could have worked with Snowball the farm would have been ten times better off. It also made me said when Napoleon forced the animals to do things because it was literally killing them.
Moods
I thought that Animal Farm was funny. This book was funny because Orwell made fun of the Russian Revolution. Orwell describes the major people of the revolution using animals. Also he used to show Stalin who was the Russian leader a pig. Also the book is funny because Orwell could not get in trouble for writing it because he would say that it was a story about animals. George Orwell made me laugh during the novel because of all of the references to the Russian Revolution.
Also when I was reading the book I felt sad. This book made me said because some animals were treated more fairly than others. For example Boxer is one of the nicest characters in the book but is never treated right because he gets sent to the glue factory after he did so much for the farm and they gave him no respect. It also made me said when Napoleon forced the animals to do things with his police force which were the dogs.
This book also made me happy. The book made me happy because at the beginning of it Mr. Jones was treating them badly and was not feeding them. Even though they had it bad with Napoleon they were not starving the entire time like if Mr. Jones was running the show. Also I was happy when Mrs. Jones left Mr. Jones because she deserved better than a lazy alcoholic.
